Bortoleto handed penalty after yellow flag infringement

Gabriel Bortoleto, driving for Audi, was penalised with a 10-second time penalty during the 2026 Azerbaijan Grand Prix for overtaking under yellow flag conditions. The incident occurred on the first lap after a Safety Car restart, where Bortoleto overtook Sergio Perez's Cadillac despite the presence of yellow flags due to a crash involving Alpine drivers and Lando Norris.

The stewards determined that Bortoleto had initially reacted to the yellow flags but did not see any electronic signals indicating a Safety Car deployment. Despite his claims, the stewards ruled that the yellow flags were an instruction that must be followed, resulting in Bortoleto finishing the race in P15 after the penalty was applied.
