F1 return to Kyalami dream is dead, with a new venue to be built near Cape Town
Image via thejudge13.comThe dream of Formula 1 returning to Kyalami has officially ended, with Blue Mountain Racing announcing plans to construct a new FIA Grade 1 circuit outside Cape Town. This project will be funded by prominent South African business leaders and aims to create a unique racing venue that avoids the complications of dealing with government entities. The first race at this new track is slated for 2031, marking the first South African Grand Prix since 1993.
In addition to the Cape Town project, Rwanda is also in the running to host an F1 Grand Prix, with President Paul Kagame expressing commitment to the bid. The competition between these two African nations highlights a renewed interest in bringing Formula 1 back to the continent, which has been without a race for decades. The new Cape Town circuit is expected to be part of a larger commercial development, enhancing the region's appeal to motorsport fans.
