FIA declares heat hazard as F1 prepares for gruelling physical test
Image via RacingNews365The FIA has officially declared a heat hazard for the upcoming Bahrain Grand Prix, prompting the implementation of specific measures for Formula 1 drivers. This declaration follows a forecast indicating a Heat Index exceeding 31.0°C during the race, necessitating teams to install Driver Cooling System components in their cars. While drivers may choose not to wear the cooling equipment, this will require them to carry additional ballast.
The Sepang International Circuit, known for its challenging conditions, features a combination of heat, humidity, and high-speed sections that demand significant physical effort from drivers. The introduction of heat-hazard regulations comes after several drivers experienced heat exhaustion during the 2023 Qatar Grand Prix, highlighting the importance of safety measures in extreme weather conditions.
