FIA release statement after Franco Colapinto sponsor 'killing integrity' claims

Following the Dutch Grand Prix, Franco Colapinto's penalties sparked criticism from his sponsor, Mercado Libre, who accused FIA stewards of undermining the integrity of Formula 1. Colapinto received a drive-through penalty for overtaking under yellow flags and an additional penalty point for not slowing down, which he felt were excessively harsh decisions. Arvid Lindblad, another driver, echoed similar sentiments regarding the penalties imposed during the race.

In response to the backlash, the FIA issued a statement condemning online abuse directed at stewards and emphasized the importance of respectful discourse in the sport. They highlighted their initiative, the United Against Online Abuse coalition, launched to combat harassment faced by officials, and reiterated that while disagreements are part of sports, they should not lead to personal attacks.
