Former F1 driver sceptical about V8 return
Image via grandprix.comFormer F1 driver Jean-Louis Schlesser has expressed skepticism about the sport's shift towards electric power, particularly criticizing the 2026 regulations for claiming environmental responsibility. He argues that the dominance of electrical components in racing is excessive and believes that Formula 1 should not present itself as eco-friendly while continuing to race with hybrid technology.
Schlesser also commented on the future of engine regulations, noting FIA president Mohammed Ben Sulayem's push for simpler engines post-2030, including a potential return to V8s. However, he doubts that major manufacturers will support such changes. Additionally, he highlighted the high costs associated with junior racing categories, which he feels are unfair, especially for young drivers like his son, Louis, who is struggling to achieve success in his racing career.
