Hungaroring asphalt raises race-stoppage fears
Image via grandprix.comAhead of the Hungarian GP, concerns have arisen regarding the condition of the Hungaroring's asphalt, which is deteriorating and could potentially interrupt the race. Drivers have reported various issues, including bumps and inconsistent grip, particularly in the final corner, prompting criticism from several racers, including George Russell and Oscar Piastri. The resurfaced sections have been described as inadequate, leading to fears of race stoppages similar to those experienced in Monaco due to track damage.
In response to these concerns, repairs were made overnight, focusing on Turn 1, but many problematic areas remain unaddressed. Pirelli has also cautioned that the rough track surface may exacerbate tyre wear and increase sliding during the race, particularly in traffic. Formula 1 officials are closely monitoring the situation to ensure the race can proceed without major interruptions.
