Was it 'unfair' not to penalise stricken F1 cars in Malaysia?
Image via the-race.comFernando Alonso expressed his dissatisfaction with the decision to allow stricken cars to start the Bahrain Grand Prix in Malaysia, citing that it was unfair as they had not stopped the race for his own car when it faced issues. Alonso highlighted that the chaos at the start was due to a software bug affecting multiple cars, including Lewis Hamilton's Ferrari, and he felt that the race should have been stopped for those cars that were unable to compete.
Despite finishing eighth, Alonso's frustration stemmed from the fact that he had experienced numerous retirements this season due to his team's reliability issues, unlike the software glitch affecting others. The FIA later clarified the situation, and Aston Martin's chief trackside officer Mike Krack and Mercedes' deputy team boss Bradley Lord both acknowledged the complexity of the situation, ultimately supporting the FIA's decision to reset the race order.
