Briatore: "It was a very poor move for a driver of his experience"
Image via f1technical.netAlpine faced a disappointing end to the Azerbaijan Grand Prix as both Pierre Gasly and Franco Colapinto retired after a collision at the first corner following a Safety Car restart. Colapinto, who was running too fast on cold tyres, locked up and hit Gasly, leading to both drivers retiring from the race. Colapinto accepted responsibility for the incident and received a 10-second penalty, which will convert to a five-place grid drop for the next race.
Gasly expressed frustration over the lost opportunity for points, despite having a competitive performance prior to the incident. Alpine Executive Advisor Flavio Briatore also voiced his disappointment, highlighting the importance of learning from the mistake. The team now looks to regroup and carry their strong pace into the upcoming race in Sepang.
