Controversial F1 race director Michael Masi lands top job

Michael Masi, the former Formula 1 race director known for his controversial decisions during his tenure, has secured a new position as Head of Sporting for SRO Motorsports Australia. His appointment was announced on September 16, 2026, and he will begin transitioning into the role at the upcoming GT Festival Sydney before officially taking over in 2027.

Masi's previous experience includes overseeing two of the most debated races in recent F1 history, including the 2021 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. His new role comes as SRO Motorsports Australia aims to build on the successes established by his predecessor, Abi Hay, who will remain with the organization in a different capacity.
