Franco Colapinto penalty revealed for causing Baku F1 pile-up

Franco Colapinto has been handed a five-place grid penalty for the upcoming Malaysian Grand Prix due to a collision he caused during the Azerbaijan Grand Prix. The incident occurred after a safety car restart when Colapinto locked up and crashed into Pierre Gasly, resulting in both drivers retiring from the race. Lando Norris expressed his frustration, suggesting that Colapinto should face a race ban, although the stewards opted for a grid penalty instead.

The stewards reviewed video evidence and concluded that Colapinto was primarily responsible for the crash, which also involved Lando Norris. They noted that the collision was not influenced by any other driver, leading them to apply the standard penalty for causing a collision. Meanwhile, Arvid Lindblad was not penalised for a separate incident involving Liam Lawson, as it was determined to be a consequence of the chaos triggered by Colapinto's actions.
