This 'fix' wouldn't have saved F1's Spanish GP
Image via the-race.comThe Spanish Grand Prix at the Madring circuit was criticized for its lack of excitement, primarily due to limited overtaking opportunities caused by the track layout. Factors such as combined entries and narrow corners made it difficult for drivers to pass each other. In response, Madring officials are planning modifications to three key corners ahead of the 2027 race, hoping to enhance the spectacle for fans.
Additionally, the race was affected by the performance of the hard tyre, which allowed drivers to complete the race without significant degradation. Esteban Ocon highlighted that the consistent behaviour of the tyres contributed to the lack of action, as drivers could push without fear of losing grip. Pirelli's analysis suggested that using softer compounds would not have improved the race's excitement, as it could lead to increased tyre management issues and safety concerns.
