Wharton joins Trident for 2027 Formula 2 season

Australian driver James Wharton has secured a full-time seat with Trident for the 2027 Formula 2 season after competing in Formula 3 for two years. His experience includes two wins and four podium finishes in Formula 3, as well as a championship win in the 2023 Formula 4 UAE series and a runner-up position in the 2024 Formula Regional European series.

Wharton previously raced with Trident in 2025, which should aid his transition back to the team. The announcement was made on September 23, 2026, and while the partnership is confirmed, the competitiveness of the seat remains uncertain due to the introduction of a new car in 2027. Wharton expressed gratitude to Trident's team managers for the opportunity.
