Red Bull set to ‘make an early call’ on 2026 F1 development push
Image via CrashRed Bull Racing is planning to adjust its development strategy for the 2026 Formula 1 season, particularly after the summer break. Team principal Laurent Mekies indicated that the team will slow down its development pace and make a strategic decision regarding the balance between the current season and the next. This comes as Red Bull, along with McLaren and Ferrari, has significantly closed the performance gap to Mercedes, which had initially been leading comfortably in the season's early stages.
In the latest race, Max Verstappen secured a second-place finish, matching his previous result from the Austrian Grand Prix. Mekies noted that Red Bull has introduced a considerable number of upgrades to their car throughout the season, but acknowledged that maintaining this development rhythm may not be feasible moving forward. The team is focused on closing the remaining performance gap and will make decisions on their future development direction sooner than they did in the previous year.
