Team principal

The team principal runs a Formula 1 team, holding responsibility for its results, its people and its decisions on the pit wall.

The job spans a racing operation, several hundred engineers, a budget governed by the cost cap, and the sponsors and manufacturer paying for it. On a Sunday they are the visible face of the team on the pit wall; the rest of the week they are running a mid-sized engineering company.

The title is not standardised — some teams split the role, others use CEO or team boss for much the same job.
