The pit wall is the row of screens facing the track where a team's senior strategists and engineers watch and call the race.
It is deliberately trackside rather than in the garage: the people making calls can see the cars and the conditions directly, not only on a monitor.
The race engineer sits here or in the garage depending on the team, but the pit wall is where the strategy decision is taken. What reaches the driver is one sentence from a conversation involving a dozen people and a live simulation.
