Double yellow flag

The step up from a single yellow. It signals that the hazard is on the racing line — a stranded car, marshals working trackside, or a heavy accident — and the required reduction in speed is correspondingly greater.

Double yellows very often precede a safety car or a red flag, because a hazard serious enough to block the track usually needs the field neutralised before it can be cleared.
