White flag

A white flag warns that there is a much slower vehicle on the track ahead.

Usually a recovery vehicle, a medical car, or a car limping back to the pits at a fraction of racing speed. The danger is closing speed: a car travelling at 300km/h coming upon one doing 80 has very little time to react.

It is also shown during the formation lap in some series to indicate practice starts are taking place.
