Red Bull narrowly defended after difficult new F1 chapter start
Image via RacingNews365Red Bull Racing has had a challenging start to their first season as a power unit manufacturer in Formula 1, currently sitting fourth in the constructors' standings with 177 points and no wins. Max Verstappen has secured two second-place finishes, but the team has faced significant struggles, including five retirements from races this season. The mixed opinions from fans reflect the expectations placed on Red Bull, with a slight majority believing that the team should not be expected to perform at the same level as established manufacturers immediately.
Despite the difficulties, there are signs of progress, as Verstappen has been on the podium in four of the last seven races. Team principal Laurent Mekies acknowledged the challenges of transitioning to a new engine and the need for time to develop their capabilities. The team is currently 202 points behind Mercedes, indicating a significant gap that they will need to address as they continue to build their new power unit project.
