Fastest lap
The fastest lap is the quickest single lap set by any driver during a race.
It is recorded for every race and is a statistic in its own right, tracked across careers alongside wins and poles.
Between 2019 and 2024 a bonus championship point was awarded for it, but only to a driver finishing in the top ten — which created the tactic of a late free pit stop for fresh tyres purely to steal it. The bonus point was dropped for 2025.
