Sprint
A sprint is a short race of around 100km held at selected weekends, with its own qualifying session and championship points for the top eight.
Also called sprint race
It runs to roughly a third of a Grand Prix distance, with no mandatory pit stop, so it is flat out from the lights.
A sprint win is not a Grand Prix win and the two are counted separately — which is why a driver's win tally does not move when they take one. The format has changed repeatedly since 2021, including whether it sets the Sunday grid; it now does not.
Most sprint wins
Sprints only, since the format was introduced in 2021 — these are not Grand Prix wins.
